Rao Narender Singh Named New Haryana Chief; Hooda Becomes Legislature Party Leader

The Congress party appointed Rao Narender Singh as the new president of its Haryana unit on Monday, while former chief minister Bhupinder Singh Hooda has been designated as the leader of the Congress Legislature Party (CLP) in the state.

Rao Narender Singh succeeds Udai Bhan, who was named president of the state unit in April 2022. Singh, who previously served as Haryana’s Health Minister, is from Narnaul. Hooda’s appointment comes nearly a year after the assembly elections, during which the Congress party was unable to unseat the BJP from power.

This move is seen as significant, particularly as the Congress had not appointed a CLP leader for the past year, amidst internal pressures from party members. Many Congress MLAs expressed allegiance to Hooda and advocated for his appointment following the party’s electoral setbacks.

Despite the prolonged vacancy of the CLP leader position, the decision to appoint Hooda reinforces his status as the party’s prominent leader in Haryana.
