New Delhi: The Delhi Capitals (DC) achieved the highest-ever T20 chase at the Himachal Pradesh Cricket Association (HPCA) Stadium in Dharamsala, successfully chasing down 211 runs against the Punjab Kings (PBKS) in their IPL 2026 match on May 11. This victory marked PBKS’s fourth consecutive loss in the tournament, while keeping DC’s playoff hopes alive.
Despite losing three wickets early, the Capitals found stability thanks to significant contributions from David Miller and Axar Patel. After being reduced to 33/3 within 4.3 overs, the pair built a crucial 64-run partnership for the fifth wicket. Axar showcased his aggressive batting style, scoring 56 off 30 balls, with eight fours and two sixes. Miller complemented him with a score of 51 off 28 deliveries, including four sixes and three fours, before being dismissed after a spectacular catch by Prabhsimran Singh off debutant Ben Dwarshuis.
Ashutosh and Madhav Maintain Composure
Following the dismissals of Axar and Miller, PBKS sensed an opportunity as DC required 41 runs from the last 21 balls. However, Ashutosh Sharma and all-rounder Madhav Tiwari, making his second IPL appearance, secured the win for DC. Madhav, who came to bat in the 17th over, scored an unbeaten 18 off eight balls, while Ashutosh contributed 24 runs from 10 balls, hitting two fours and two sixes. Auqib Nabi later sealed the victory with a six and a four in the penultimate over, allowing DC to win by three wickets with one over remaining.
PBKS Posts Strong 210/5 After Batting First
Facing elimination, the Delhi Capitals opted to bowl first in this season’s inaugural match at the picturesque HPCA Stadium, making five changes to their playing XI. Mitchell Starc faced a challenging start, conceding 22 runs in his first over as Priyansh Arya aggressively targeted the bowling, hitting sixes to both sides of the wicket.
Priyansh commenced his attack by hitting a first-ball six off Starc, continuing to dominate the DC bowlers. Starc’s initial attempts for swing proved ineffective, resulting in 51 runs leaked in the first three overs. Aquib Nabi then sparked a comeback for DC, extracting seam movement and troubling Priyansh later in the powerplay. Prabhsimran Singh managed 18 runs off 15 balls before being dismissed by Mukesh Kumar. Madhav claimed his first IPL wicket by dismissing Priyansh at deep point in the ninth over. Despite a strong start, PBKS only reached 107 for two at the halfway point.
Captain Shreyas Iyer remained unbeaten on 59 off 36 balls, supported by Cooper Connolly’s 38 off 27 deliveries, as the duo added 83 runs for the third wicket. However, PBKS struggled to accelerate in the latter stages of their innings.
Starc made a notable comeback in the 19th over, dismissing Marcus Stoinis and Shashank Singh with consecutive deliveries. Suryansh Shedge countered this with two impressive sixes off Starc, but Lungi Ngidi delivered a tight final over, restricting PBKS from surpassing the 210-run mark.
