An individual from Pakistan-occupied Kashmir (PoK) was apprehended while attempting to cross the Line of Control (LoC) in the Uri sector of north Kashmir, as reported by the Army on Sunday. Preliminary reports, supported by a social media video, suggest that the intrusion was motivated by a romantic relationship with a local woman.

The suspect, identified as 22-year-old Zeeshan Ahmad Mir from Painkadi village in Muzaffarabad district, was detained late Saturday after entering through the Haji Peer range in the Silikote area of Uri. Following his capture, local authorities also took into custody Iram Bano, the woman he allegedly intended to meet. Bano hails from Tilawari village, located near the LoC.

A video that subsequently went viral features the couple introducing themselves while responding to questions from an unidentified person believed to be a security official. A police officer, speaking on the condition of anonymity, confirmed that the situation was indeed related to romance, revealing that the families of both individuals have connections across the border and that the couple had been communicating via social media.

Mir’s family originally resided in Uri but migrated to PoK several decades ago, according to the officer. The Army stated that its personnel exercised restraint in confronting Mir, describing the apprehension as “surgical.” Following his capture, Mir was handed over to the Jammu and Kashmir Police for further legal action.
