On Monday, the stock market saw Kotak Mahindra Bank Ltd., Bharti Airtel Ltd., ICICI Bank Ltd., Tech Mahindra Ltd., and HCL Technologies Ltd. emerge as the top gainers. On the flip side, PowerGrid Corporation of India Ltd., Tata Steel Ltd., Zomato Ltd., Titan Company Ltd., and Bajaj Finance Ltd. were among the major decliners.

The BSE Sensex experienced a significant decline due to renewed trade war concerns, with the index closing 0.70% or 548.39 points lower at 77,311.80. The NSE Nifty also lost 0.76% or 178.35 points, ending at 23,381.60.

Leading the gainers, Kotak Mahindra Bank rose by 1.20% to ₹1,959.45, followed by Bharti Airtel which saw a 0.90% increase to ₹1,692.85. ICICI Bank closed at ₹1,262.90 with a 0.48% gain, while Tech Mahindra and HCL Technologies added 0.41% and 0.40% respectively.

On the other hand, PowerGrid was the biggest loser, dropping 3.45% to ₹268.70, while Tata Steel declined by 3.11% to ₹134.00. Zomato, Titan Company, and Bajaj Finance also experienced losses of 2.87%, 2.83%, and 2.15% respectively.

The market took a hit following President Trump’s announcement of new tariffs on steel and aluminum imports, raising concerns about global trade relations. This led to a sell-off in the metal sector, contributing to the overall downward trend in the market.
