Colombo: Two Under-19 cricketers from Sri Lanka have been arrested on accusations of surreptitiously filming several female doctors bathing at a private hotel in Narahenpita, where the doctors were staying to attend a professional conference.

According to a report from the Daily Mirror, the police revealed that the cricketers allegedly used their mobile phones to capture footage of the doctors through openings in the bathroom facilities. “Narahenpita Police arrested two members of the Sri Lanka Under-19 National Cricket Team following allegations that they had secretly filmed several female doctors while they were bathing,” the police stated.

The players have been granted personal bail, though their identities have not been disclosed publicly. They are scheduled to appear in court on May 25 for a hearing related to the incident. Further investigation by the police indicated that the suspects had also recorded video footage of male individuals present at the hotel.

Authorities are currently examining whether any of the recorded material has been uploaded online or shared on social media platforms. The two suspects were presented before the Hulftsdorp Magistrate’s Court, where bail was granted.

Sri Lankan cricket has previously faced controversies involving prominent players. In 2022, cricketer Danushka Gunathilaka was arrested on charges of rape during the T20 World Cup in Australia, but he was subsequently acquitted following multiple court hearings. Another former cricketer, Dulip Samaraweera, received a 20-year ban from Cricket Australia after engaging in inappropriate behavior towards a female player during a coaching assignment in Victoria.
