Dharmendra Pradhan Challenges MK Stalin’s Claims with Evidence on PM-SHRI Scheme Consent

Union Minister Dharmendra Pradhan has reaffirmed his criticism of the DMK-led government in Tamil Nadu for its decision to sign a Memorandum of Understanding (MoU) with the Central government regarding the acceptance of the PM-SHRI scheme. In a recent attack on the Tamil Nadu government, Pradhan released a “consent” letter from the state government that indicates their agreement to set up PM-SHRI schools in the state.

On Monday, the DMK lodged a privilege motion, demanding action against the minister for “contempt of the House” over his claims surrounding the PM-SHRI scheme, claiming they were “factually incorrect, misleading the House and contrary to official records.”

In a post on X, he stated, “Yesterday, DMK MPs and Hon’ble CM Stalin accused me of misleading Parliament regarding Tamil Nadu’s agreement for the establishment of PM-SHRI Schools. I maintain my stance made in Parliament and am sharing the consent letter from the Tamil Nadu School Education Department dated 15th March 2024.”

“DMK MPs and Hon’ble CM can pile lies as high as they wish, but the truth will eventually make its presence known. The DMK administration, led by Hon’ble CM Stalin, owes many explanations to the people of Tamil Nadu. Using the language issue as a diversion and ignoring facts that do not suit them won’t protect them from scrutiny regarding their governance and welfare shortcomings,” the Union minister remarked.

He also shared a purported letter indicating the DMK government’s “consent” for establishing PM-SHRI schools in Tamil Nadu. Also Read |

“What caused this sudden shift on the NEP? It seems to be a move for political advantage and to rejuvenate the DMK’s political standing. This regressive approach by the DMK harms the promising future of Tamil Nadu and its students. I earnestly urge Hon’ble CM to view NEP 2020 beyond a political perspective and prioritize the welfare of our children in Tamil Nadu over political interests,” he added.

MP Kanimozhi Karunanidhi has submitted a breach of privilege notice against Union Education Minister Dharmendra Pradhan on Monday, seeking action against him while he responded to a query about the non-release of funds by the Union government under the Samagra Shiksha scheme.

According to Kanimozhi’s notice, Pradhan’s assertion that the Tamil Nadu government made a “U-turn” after consenting to a Memorandum of Understanding with the government of India for accepting the PM-SHRI scheme is “factually incorrect, misleading the House and against official records.”
