Congress Questions Operation Sindoor, Citing Conflicting Statements from Defense Officials

NEW DELHI: The Congress party has raised concerns regarding Operation Sindoor, suggesting that discrepancies among top defense officials’ statements indicate potential issues. Congress leader Ajay Rai stated, “The Chief of Defence Staff (CDS) says one thing, the Army Chief says something else, and various officials are providing conflicting narratives. This clearly indicates that there is something fishy.”

Rai urged the government to clarify the situation and present “truth and reality” to the nation, calling for transparency in the matter. His comments followed remarks from Air Force Chief Amar Preet Singh during a press conference marking the 93rd Air Force Day celebrations in New Delhi. Singh rejected Pakistan’s claims of downing Indian fighter jets during Operation Sindoor, referring to them as “Manohar Kahaniyan” (stories).

During the press conference, Singh asserted that Pakistan lacked evidence to support its assertions, while India had provided photographic evidence of damage inflicted on Pakistani targets during the operation. He suggested that the Pakistani government made these claims to maintain its image and mislead the public.

Pakistan has repeatedly alleged that it shot down multiple Indian aircraft during Operation Sindoor. Singh dismissed such claims, saying, “If they think they shot down 15 of my jets, let them believe it, and I hope they will consider 15 less in my inventory when they prepare for the next confrontation. So why should I discuss it?”

Singh further added, “Have you seen a single picture showing something fell on any of our airbases or caused damage? We have shown numerous images of their sites, yet they failed to produce any evidence. Their narrative is merely for their audience, and their reputation does not concern me.”

In June, Chief of Defence Staff General Anil Chauhan stated in an interview with Reuters that India experienced initial losses during the conflict but refrained from divulging specific details. Chauhan emphasized the importance of understanding why these losses occurred and the subsequent steps to be taken, in light of Pakistani claims regarding downed aircraft.
