New Delhi: Royal Challengers Bangalore achieved a remarkable victory against Kolkata Knight Riders in the 57th match of the 2026 Indian Premier League (IPL). Chasing a target of 193 runs set by KKR, RCB sealed the win with a six-wicket margin, accomplishing the chase in 19.1 overs. Star performer Virat Kohli played a pivotal role, scoring an unbeaten 105 runs off 60 balls.
Following Kohli’s innings, former Australia cricketer Aaron Finch expressed high praise, describing Kohli’s performance as exemplary for any top-order batsman globally. Finch remarked, “It would have been important for him just to get off the mark. Nobody wants to get three ducks in a row. Some of those shots were absolutely class. His ability to sum up the conditions straight away is second to none. The way he got into his work so quickly and was able to get his innings underway with no risk was great. That’s the dream as a player at the top of the order,” during an interview on JioHotstar.
In contrast, the performance of Kolkata Knight Riders has been under scrutiny as they sit in eighth place in the standings with four wins and six losses from 11 matches. Former India cricketer Cheteshwar Pujara commented on KKR’s playoff prospects, stating, “It’s a tough ask for KKR. I don’t think they will be qualifying for the playoffs. The chances are very slim. The way the season has gone for KKR, there’s still a lot to play for. It’s not just about reaching the playoffs. Obviously, when you are not in contention, you play for pride.”
