New Delhi: Aishwarya Rai Bachchan, a seasoned attendee of the Cannes Film Festival, is once again the center of attention as fans eagerly await her latest red carpet appearance. The actress’s iconic mustard-yellow Kanjeevaram saree from the 2002 Cannes Film Festival has gone viral recently, sparking conversations about its enduring impact.

In 2002, Aishwarya Rai captivated audiences in a striking mustard-yellow saree designed by Neeta Lulla, complemented by elaborate jewelry and a bindi. She attended the festival alongside Shah Rukh Khan and Sanjay Leela Bhansali for the world premiere of the film “Devdas.” The film was well-received, but Aishwarya’s sartorial choice has continued to resonate, with her images from that event frequently circulating on social media. Recently, Alia Bhatt referenced this iconic look during an interview, emphasizing its significance.

Speaking to British Vogue prior to her own red carpet appearance on May 13, Bhatt stated, “A Cannes look that actually goes down in my memory as absolutely iconic would have to be Aishwarya Rai Bachchan at the Devdas premiere. The beautiful saree that she wore and just her face, it was iconic.”

Aishwarya Rai has been a fixture at Cannes for nearly 24 years and is set to return to the red carpet on May 22 this year. Alongside her, Tara Sutaria is making her Cannes debut, while other celebrities like Urvashi Rautela, Aditi Rao Hydari, and Punjabi actor-singer Ammy Virk are also expected to attend the festival.

On the professional front, Aishwarya Rai was last seen in Mani Ratnam’s “Ponniyin Selvan” films.
