Satellite Images Expose RSF Atrocities in El-Fasher: Mass Killings and Blocked Escape Routes

As the Sudanese military agreed to a U.S.-led humanitarian truce, a shocking report revealed systematic atrocities by the Rapid Support Forces (RSF) in and around El-Fasher, North Darfur, including the closure of escape routes, such as the sealing of the Garni Gate, one of only five civilian exits, alongside mass killings and the burning and concealment of bodies.

Meanwhile, the Rapid Support Forces (RSF), a paramilitary group engaged in a two-year war with the Sudanese military on Thursday announced that it had agreed to a U.S.-led humanitarian truce proposed by the Quad, just over a week after seizing El-Fasher,  the Sudanese army’s last stronghold in the war-torn Darfur region, which had been under siege for more than 18 months.

According to The Yale School of Public Health’s Humanitarian Research Lab (HRL), the RSF has closed a critical escape route through the berm from El-Fasher to Garni, North Darfur.

📢 🚨 ‼ BREAKING ‼NEW @HRL_YaleSPH REPORT ON EL FASHER HITS NOW: RSF closed berm exit to Garni from El Fasher; bodies likely being set on fire at two locations, including Saudi hospital and at likely kill site near berm; and additional evidence of body removal mounts by the day https://t.co/G9IuM1Qm8W

Satellite imagery from November 4, 2025, shows that the RSF walled in the crossing point by pushing earth from both sides, likely using mechanical equipment, effectively sealing off one of the few remaining exits.

“These actions serve to further entrap civilians inside El-Fasher who have been subjected to months of siege, famine, and targeted attacks, and to systematic mass killings over the past ten days,” HRL said.

Satellite imagery collected on November 6, 2025, reveals evidence of RSF burning objects that may be consistent with human bodies at two key sites in El-Fasher, the Mellit Gate berm control point and the Saudi Hospital.

HRL noted that the burning of bodies is “inconsistent with Islamic burial practices” and would complicate future efforts to identify victims and determine the death toll following the fall of El-Fasher.

At Saudi Hospital, HRL identified a cluster of white oblong objects near the main hospital buildings on November 1 that appeared charred and emitting black smoke in imagery from November 6.

Earlier images from October 28 showed similar objects, consistent with human body dimensions, outside the hospital, which were later removed, with flatbed truck activity recorded between October 30 and November 2.

Ground reports and videos verified by HRL indicated that as many as 460 people were killed by RSF at the hospital after it captured El-Fasher, despite RSF later claiming that the hospital remained operational.

At the Mellit Gate berm control point, HRL observed clusters of objects visible between October 30 and November 1 that appeared to be burning by November 6.

The site, heavily fortified and controlled by RSF, showed the presence of about 15 light technical vehicles and newly placed materials along the berm.

HRL also noted that the Mellit Gate is one of the few RSF-controlled escape routes out of El-Fasher, and multiple reports indicate that RSF has executed civilians, particularly men, attempting to flee through these crossings.

In addition, HRL detected two light-colored objects, measuring 1.1 and 1.6 meters, along the El-Fasher-to-Garni road between November 3–4, located roughly 600 meters from the berm.

These objects may be consistent with human remains or smaller bodies and were found near tracks suggesting repeated vehicle movement.

Overall, HRL’s analysis indicates a pattern of possible body disposal and burning by RSF forces in and around El-Fasher, further evidencing mass killings and systematic destruction during their ongoing siege of the city.

satellite imagery collected between November 3 and 6, 2025, shows that the grounds of the former Children’s Hospital in El-Fasher have been cleared of all visible objects, including both dark objects consistent with human bodies and light-toned objects.

The imagery revealed that while the hospital grounds appeared dark and textured on November 3, by November 6 the area had a smooth and uniform surface, suggesting that it may have been systematically graded or ploughed and then flattened, possibly using mechanical earth movers.

HRL noted that the RSF-controlled former Children’s Hospital had previously been the site of at least two potential mass killings, as well as body disposal activities and a mass grave just outside the facility, observed in earlier reports following RSF’s capture of El-Fasher.

Reports from UN human rights watchdogs and other experts of widespread violence and war crimes after the city of El Fasher fell to the Rapid Support Forces (RSF) militia on 23 October this year, which has been battling former allies-turned-rivals,  the military government in Khartoum, for control of Sudan for over two years.

“Today, traumatised civilians are still trapped inside El Fasher and are being prevented from leaving,” said UN Human Rights Chief Volker Türk in a statement released on Friday.
