Telangana Chief Minister A Revanth Reddy has urged Union Jal Shakti Minister C R Patil to ensure that Telangana receives an equitable allocation of water from the Krishna River. He proposed that 70 percent of the river’s water be designated for Telangana, highlighting that the majority—70 percent—of the river’s basin is located within the state, while only 30 percent lies in Andhra Pradesh.

During a meeting in New Delhi on Monday, the Chief Minister, accompanied by the State’s Irrigation Minister Uttam Kumar Reddy, advocated for the protection of Telangana’s interests concerning the distribution of water from the Krishna and Godavari rivers.

In his discussions with the Union Minister, he pointed out the Krishna River Management Board’s controversial decision to allocate 66 percent of the water to Andhra Pradesh and only 34 percent to Telangana, despite the fact that most of the river’s catchment area is situated in Telangana, according to a statement from the Chief Minister’s Office.

Revanth Reddy expressed that Telangana has been subjected to years of inequity, alleging that Andhra Pradesh is using more water than its allocated share. He called on the Union Minister to ensure that the neighboring state complies with its designated water limits in the future.

Additionally, the Chief Minister requested sufficient financial support for various irrigation projects, including the Palamuru-Ranga Reddy, Sitarama Lift Irrigation Scheme, and Chinna Kaleshwaram (Mukteshwar) Lift Irrigation Schemes.
