Time to Settle Discord: Sanjay Jha’s Open Letter to Rahul Gandhi on Tharoor Tensions

Former spokesperson for the Congress party, Sanjay Jha, penned an open letter to Congress MP Rahul Gandhi on Monday amidst speculation regarding a possible “rift” between the Congress leadership and Kerala Congress MP Shashi Tharoor.

Following remarks that raised questions about his relationship with the party, Jha stated in a lengthy post on X, “I am addressing you publicly here because there’s a good chance no one within the Congress will convey this to you. So, as usual, let me take the bull by the horns.”

“Whether corporate, political, or any other field, it involves engaging in tough conversations. It’s about troubleshooting. It’s not about living in denial; issues must be confronted, not simply ignored,” Jha articulated.

He further asserted that Shashi Tharoor is “an exceptional parliamentarian”. He remarked, “It’s disheartening that once again a valuable asset of the party is compelled to communicate with the media to get his message across to you or the Congress leadership.”

“No issue is insurmountable; the crucial question is whether we possess the resolve to address them in the interest of all. And that too, expeditiously,” Jha emphasized.

The former Congress spokesperson stated that the focus must remain on confronting the BJP, “but a prerequisite for that is to first ensure that our own house is in order.”

“This cannot linger as a constant unresolved dilemma for years as it drains the energy and enthusiasm of Congress workers and supporters. A party aspiring to challenge must be swift, desperate, risk-taking, and perpetually vigilant. It cannot be business as usual, that’s for sure,” Jha remarked.

Jha concluded by saying, “We need to directly address the core issues moving forward, but at present, it seems we are merely frustrating ourselves. I am confident the party and you will resolve this matter promptly. Best of luck!”

Shashi Tharoor ignites political uproar

Shashi Tharoor recently ignited a political storm by commending the government’s management of Kerala’s economy. His comments in an article published in an English daily drew backlash from fellow Congress members in the state.

Later, in an interview with a Malayalam podcast, Tharoor suggested that if the Congress does not broaden its appeal, it risks remaining in opposition for a third consecutive term in Kerala.

Tharoor was also quoted as saying that “numerous workers feel there is a lack of leadership in Kerala’s Congress.” He additionally stated that he has been elected as MP four times from Thiruvananthapuram, and if the Congress did not require his contributions, he had “other options” such as speaking tours and writing books.

Shashi Tharoor inquires about his role in Congress with Rahul Gandhi

According to reports, Shashi Tharoor previously met Congress MP Rahul Gandhi seeking clarification about his role in the Congress.

Tharoor reportedly expressed disappointment over being marginalized within the Congress and missing opportunities—like not being included in significant Parliamentary discussions.

To these concerns, Rahul Gandhi reportedly had no response.
