On Sunday, Manipur Chief Minister N Biren Singh submitted his resignation to Governor Ajay Kumar Bhalla at the Raj Bhavan, officials reported. Singh was accompanied by 14 MLAs from the BJP and the Naga People’s Front (NPF). The delegation also included A Sharda, the state BJP president, and senior party leader Sambit Patra.

Following his meeting with the Governor, Singh proceeded to the Chief Minister’s secretariat. In his resignation letter, he expressed, “It has been an honor to serve the people of Manipur thus far. I am deeply thankful to the central government for its timely actions, interventions, developmental initiatives, and the implementation of various projects aimed at safeguarding the interests of every Manipuri.” This development occurred just hours after his return from Delhi.

The previous day, Singh had convened a meeting with MLAs of the BJP-led ruling alliance at the Chief Minister’s secretariat to discuss the upcoming assembly session, which is set to commence on February 10. This meeting was prompted by the opposition Congress party’s intention to introduce a no-confidence motion against Singh’s government.
