On World Hearing Day (March 3), the focus is on changing mindsets towards ear and hearing care, continuing from last year’s theme. By 2030, it is estimated that over 500 million people will have disabling hearing loss, necessitating rehabilitation. Additionally, more than one billion young individuals are at risk of permanent hearing loss due to prolonged exposure to loud sounds from activities like listening to music and playing video games.

This year’s campaign, titled ‘Changing mindsets: Empower yourself to make ear and hearing care a reality for all!’, will introduce global standards for safe listening in video game playing and sports, along with a school module on smart listening to be included in educational programs.

The future of our hearing depends on how well we care for our ears today, through the adoption of safe listening practices and proper hearing care, as stated by the WHO.
