JSW Energy Limited’s recent approval to acquire KSK Mahanadi Power Company Limited (KMPCL) marks a significant milestone in the company’s expansion of its power generation portfolio. The acquisition, which includes the KMPCL facility in Chhattisgarh with 1,800 MW of operational capacity and an additional 1,800 MW under construction, brings JSW Energy’s total locked-in thermal generation capacity to 7.5 GW. This move aligns with the company’s goal of achieving 20 GW capacity before 2030.

The transaction is subject to regulatory approvals from the National Company Law Tribunal and Competition Commission of India. The power plant has secured necessary arrangements for water supply and coal transportation for its entire 3,600 MW capacity. JSW Energy, a part of the USD 24 billion JSW Group, has grown its power generation capacity from 260 MW in 2000 to 7,864 MW today, with a diverse portfolio encompassing thermal, wind, hydel, and solar power assets.

The acquisition of KMPCL reinforces JSW Energy’s position in the power generation sector and paves the way for further growth and diversification in the industry. The company’s strategic expansion efforts demonstrate its commitment to sustainable energy generation and its vision for a cleaner and more efficient power infrastructure in India.
