IT Stocks Propel Sensex and Nifty Amidst Volatile Mid-Day Trading

The market breadth remained weak on the BSE, with 2,701 stocks declining against 1,351 advancing, and 209 unchanged out of 4,261 stocks traded. | Photo Credit: iStockphoto

At 1 pm, the Sensex stood at 85,312.93, up 81.01 points or 0.10 per cent from its previous close of 85,231.92. The Nifty gained 18.25 points or 0.07 per cent to 26,086.40, compared to its previous close of 26,068.15. The Sensex opened at 85,320.04, while the Nifty started the session at 26,122.80.

Tech Mahindra led the Nifty gainers, rising 2.66 per cent to ₹1,500.40, followed by Infosys, which climbed 2.08 per cent to ₹1,577.20. HCL Tech advanced 1.42 per cent to ₹1,630.80, and Wipro gained 1.38 per cent to ₹247.86. Eicher Motors rounded out the top five gainers with a 1.04 per cent increase to ₹7,208.50.

On the losing side, BEL declined 1.31 per cent to ₹410.90, while M&M fell 1.17 per cent to ₹3,705.70. Tata Motors Passenger Vehicles dropped 1.12 per cent to ₹358.20, Eternal Ltd slipped 1.06 per cent to ₹298.75, and Grasim lost 0.99 per cent to ₹2,707.80.

Sectoral indices showed divergent trends. Nifty Bank rose 0.64 per cent to 59,227.25, and Nifty Financial Services gained 0.40 per cent to 27,659.40. However, Nifty Next 50 fell 0.45 per cent to 68,361.00, Nifty Midcap 100 declined 0.12 per cent to 60,207.05, and Nifty Smallcap 100 dropped 0.53 per cent to 17,765.60.

The market breadth remained weak on the BSE, with 2,701 stocks declining against 1,351 advancing, and 209 unchanged out of 4,261 stocks traded. A total of 278 stocks hit 52-week lows, compared to 82 touching 52-week highs. As many as 221 stocks were in the lower circuit, while 165 hit the upper circuit.

The muted gains came despite a positive opening, as broader market weakness and persistent foreign institutional investor outflows continued to weigh on sentiment.
