Atul Bora, president of the Asom Gana Parishad (AGP) and party candidate for the Bokakhat constituency, filed his nomination in Golaghat on Monday, accompanied by Assam Chief Minister Himanta Biswa Sarma.
The political landscape in Assam presents a stark contrast as new players emerge. The Raijor Dal, formed in response to the anti-Citizenship (Amendment) Act protests, is gaining traction against the dominant opposition party. Meanwhile, the AGP, long associated with regionalism in Assam, appears to be in significant decline despite benefiting from being in power for the past decade.
Currently, the Raijor Dal, led by Akhil Gogoi, who remains the only MLA from his party while contesting as an Independent from jail, has successfully secured 11 seats previously held by the Congress after terminating alliance discussions and declaring candidates for 13 constituencies.
The evolving political dynamics in Assam suggest a shifting electorate as new alliances and party strategies develop in the lead-up to the elections.
