Prime Minister Narendra Modi arrived in the Netherlands on Saturday as part of the second leg of his five-nation tour. He was received by Rear Admiral Ludger Brummelaar, adjutant-general and chief of the military household of His Majesty the King, along with Dutch Foreign Minister Tom Berendsen and Indian Ambassador to the Netherlands Kumar Tuhin, among other senior Dutch officials.

In a post on social media platform X, PM Modi noted he would be meeting with Dutch Prime Minister Rob Jetten and visiting King Willem-Alexander and Queen Maxima. “Landed in Amsterdam. This visit to the Netherlands comes at a time when the India-EU Free Trade Agreement has given a major impetus to trade and investment linkages,” he stated.

PM Modi emphasized that the visit presents an opportunity to deepen bilateral relations in areas such as semiconductors, water management, and clean energy. He also expressed his anticipation for addressing the Indian community during a program scheduled for the morning of the 16th.

During his two-day visit, PM Modi is expected to engage in discussions with Prime Minister Jetten and pay official visits to the Dutch monarchy. He will also address the Indian community and meet with Dutch business leaders. According to the Ministry of External Affairs (MEA), this visit aims to strengthen the multifaceted partnership between India and the Netherlands.

MEA spokesperson Randhir Jaiswal reiterated that the trip would enhance cooperation with the largest Indian diaspora on mainland Europe. In recent years, India and the Netherlands have intensified ties, expanding their collaboration beyond trade and investment to include sectors such as water management, agriculture, and healthcare. The Netherlands ranks among India’s top trade partners in Europe, with bilateral trade projected to reach USD 27.8 billion in 2024-25, and is also the fourth-largest source of foreign direct investment in India, totaling USD 55.6 billion.
