The recent contract secured by VA TECH WABAG Limited from Lusaka Water Supply and Sanitation Company in Zambia for designing, building, and operating two wastewater treatment plants is a significant development in the field of water infrastructure. The €78 million project, funded by the European Investment Bank and Germany’s KfW, involves the construction of two advanced wastewater treatment facilities in Ngwerere and Chunga. These plants will operate primarily on green energy, using biogas and solar power, highlighting a commitment to sustainability.

This project marks WABAG’s entry into the Zambian market and signifies a strategic move to expand its footprint in Africa. With operations in more than 25 countries, the Chennai-based water technology company was chosen for its technical expertise and competitive bid. The project, which includes a 36-month construction phase followed by 24 months of operation and maintenance services, is one of Zambia’s largest sanitation initiatives in recent years.

The contract aligns with the Zambian government’s goals to enhance water infrastructure, reflecting a broader trend towards improving water management practices globally. As the demand for efficient and sustainable water treatment solutions grows, companies like VA TECH WABAG are playing a crucial role in addressing the world’s water challenges. This project serves as a testament to the company’s commitment to innovation and environmental stewardship in the water sector.

Overall, the contract between VA TECH WABAG and Lusaka Water Supply and Sanitation Company in Zambia represents a significant step towards improving water quality and sanitation in the region. By leveraging green technology and expertise in water treatment, the project has the potential to positively impact the local community and environment. As such, it underscores the importance of investing in sustainable water management practices for a better future.
