Shares of Zee Entertainment Enterprises Ltd (ZEEL) rose nearly 3 percent on Monday following the announcement of an eight-year partnership with FIFA, the governing body of world soccer, to broadcast all matches, including the World Cup 2026, in India.
The stock closed up 2.67 percent at ₹95.75 on the Bombay Stock Exchange (BSE), having peaked at ₹99.72 during trading, a gain of 6.92 percent. On the National Stock Exchange (NSE), ZEEL shares increased by 2.87 percent, finishing at ₹95.79.
Under the agreement with the Fédération Internationale de Football Association (FIFA), ZEEL will broadcast 39 global football events, including the FIFA World Cup 2026, which is set to commence on June 11, 2026. Indian football fans will have access to live coverage through ZEEL’s sports network and its streaming service, ZEE5.
The partnership grants ZEEL media rights for several key events, including the FIFA World Cup 2026, the FIFA World Cup 2030, and the FIFA Women’s World Cup in 2027, extending through to 2034. The agreement also includes docu-series content specifically for the Indian market.
Punit Goenka, CEO of ZEEL, expressed excitement about bringing such a significant sporting event to Indian viewers. He noted that football transcends regional and demographic boundaries, and that the investment in media rights and the launch of dedicated sports channels demonstrate their confidence in the sport’s long-term potential.
Goenka emphasized that this collaboration with FIFA will help ZEEL realize the full value of soccer in alignment with their focus on growth and profitability, while also enhancing the excitement surrounding the game for fans across India.
