The West Bengal government has reported receiving over ₹90.51 lakh crore in investment proposals during the past seven editions of the Bengal Global Business Summit. Chief Minister Mamata Banerjee announced that projects valued at more than ₹12 lakh crore have already been initiated.

“During these seven editions, we have garnered investment proposals exceeding ₹90.51 lakh crore. This morning, I faced inquiries regarding this figure. I want to clarify that I don’t require validation from those engaging in political maneuvering; my focus is on the common people. I am pleased to announce that over ₹12 lakh crore worth of projects have been launched, while others are in various stages of progress,” Banerjee stated on the first day of the eighth Bengal Global Business Summit.

She emphasized that Bengal has significant potential for attracting further investment, highlighting its status as one of the largest economies in the country. “We have approximately 5,000 acres of land available for industrial development in our state,” she noted.

During the event, Banerjee also unveiled her initiative to commence basalt mining over a 326-acre plot at the proposed Deucha-Pachami coal mine located in Birbhum district. “The Deucha-Pachami site holds a coal reserve of 1,240 million tonnes, alongside 2,600 million tonnes of basalt,” she added, stating that it is Asia’s second-largest coal mine.
