Hyderabad: Abhishek Sharma delivered an exceptional batting performance against the Delhi Capitals at the Rajiv Gandhi International Stadium, amassing an unbeaten 135 runs off just 68 balls. His outstanding innings helped the home team post a formidable total of 242 runs in the first innings.
Sharma had been under scrutiny following a slow start to the season and a challenging T20 World Cup. However, he regained his form and faced little resistance from the Delhi bowlers. During his innings, he hit 10 sixes and formed critical partnerships with Travis Head and Heinrich Klaasen.
After reaching his century, Sharma appeared fatigued, allowing Klaasen to take charge. Known for his consistency this season, Klaasen contributed an explosive 37 runs off 13 balls, further solidifying Hyderabad’s dominance. Delhi managed to secure only two wickets during the innings, and in their chase, they faltered as well, leading to Hyderabad’s comfortable 47-run victory and their ascent to third place in the IPL 2026 points table.
Eshan Malinga’s Performance Disrupts Delhi
In the second innings, Eshan Malinga claimed four wickets for Hyderabad, while the Delhi batsmen struggled. The team’s difficulties began with KL Rahul, who scored only 37 runs off 23 balls. Although this may appear acceptable in another context, it proved detrimental while chasing a target of 243 runs on a batter-friendly pitch. Opening partner Pathum Nissanka also failed to make a significant impact.
Nitish Rana and Sameer Rizvi provided some resistance at three and four, scoring 57 and 41 runs, respectively, but received minimal support from their teammates. Meanwhile, Harsh Dubey clinched three wickets in the final over of the match, helping Hyderabad secure a decisive victory.
