Revenue from operations increased 10.6 per cent year-on-year to ₹4,066.8 crore. Revenue from transaction charges, the largest contributor, rose 9 per cent to ₹3,035 crore, driven by higher activity in the cash market and equity options segments.
However, transaction charge revenue declined 16 per cent sequentially from ₹3,623 crore in the June quarter, while net profit fell 17.4 per cent quarter-on-quarter.
Total expenditure declined 51 per cent to ₹1,161 crore from ₹2,354 crore in the year-ago quarter. The previous year’s expenditure included a one-time provision of ₹1,297 crore towards settlement fees related to the Securities and Exchange Board of India’s (SEBI) co-location and dark fibre matters. Excluding this provision, expenses would have increased 10 per cent year-on-year, the management said during the post-earnings call.
The cash market recorded average daily traded volumes of ₹1.18 lakh crore, up 24 per cent year-on-year, while equity options premium turnover increased 3 per cent to ₹47,977 crore. NSE expects the recent easing of upfront margin requirements and proposed changes to securities lending and borrowing (SLB) rules to support cash market activity.
On the possibility of weekly expiries moving to fortnightly or monthly contracts, NSE said there were “no current plans” for such changes. The exchange is also not expecting further changes to equity derivatives expiry frequency at present.
The exchange has added close to 800 full rack equivalents since January 2025, taking the total to around 1,870 racks. It currently has surplus capacity but is prepared to expand further as demand rises. The exchange is also considering upgrading its existing full-rack infrastructure.
NSE said the demand for additional racks was a positive indicator of growing interest among market participants in trading on NSE’s platform. It added that co-location-related revenue should be assessed alongside transaction charges, as higher order volumes from members using the facility could also contribute to transaction revenue.
