Raghav Chadha, a Member of Parliament in the Rajya Sabha representing the Aam Aadmi Party (AAP), announced during a press conference that seven out of ten AAP MPs in the Rajya Sabha plan to merge with the Bharatiya Janata Party (BJP). Chadha clarified that, according to the Constitution, a minimum of two-thirds of a party’s total MPs can legally merge with another party.
The press conference took place at the Constitution Club in New Delhi on April 24, 2026. Accompanying Chadha were fellow Rajya Sabha MPs Sandeep Pathak and Ashok Mittal.
This development comes as significant shifts in political alliances continue to shape the landscape in Indian politics, particularly within Punjab, where the AAP has faced various challenges. Chadha’s remarks reflect an ongoing trend of changing party affiliations that has characterized the current political climate in the country.
