Runaya Metsource Ltd, a subsidiary of Vedanta, announced plans to expand its production capabilities for critical metals, including cobalt, cadmium, and copper, along with other base metals and their compounds.

The company operates fully functional facilities in Rajasthan, boasting an installed capacity of over 70,000 tonnes per annum, where it converts industrial residues into a range of critical and base metals.

In line with its growth strategy, Runaya is enhancing its capacity at the Zinc Industrial Park in Rajasthan. According to a media statement, this expansion will enable the company to evolve into a multi-critical metal production platform, fostering a cluster-driven ecosystem in India and contributing to local job creation.

Cobalt, cadmium, and copper serve as essential inputs for energy storage, electric vehicle (EV) systems, power grids, renewable energy infrastructure, electronics, and data centers. By scaling up domestic production of these metals through advanced methods like solvent extraction, Runaya aims to bolster India’s critical minerals mission and decrease import reliance in sectors crucial for the nation’s industrial growth.

Naivedya Agarwal, Managing Director of Runaya, emphasized, “We are advancing India’s Critical Minerals Mission by developing an integrated circular platform for the recovery of critical metals. With current operations and additional capacity, we are creating a cluster-driven large-scale, value-added manufacturing ecosystem. This growing scale supports long-term domestic security across energy, mobility, electronics, and advanced manufacturing, while delivering sustainable value.”

This announcement underscores Runaya’s commitment to enhancing India’s self-sufficiency in critical minerals, vital for its industrial future.
