Madrid (Spain): Real Madrid has imposed sanctions on Federico Valverde and Aurelien Tchouameni following a confrontation during a training session. Reports indicate that an intense challenge between the players triggered a dispute that escalated into a physical altercation in the dressing room. Valverde sustained an injury requiring a visit to the hospital, although he has since been discharged and is expected to return to action in two weeks.
During the incident, Valverde reportedly fell and struck his head against a table. The internal conflict had already shown signs earlier in the week, resulting in the club fining both players 500,000 euros after an internal disciplinary review. This decision was confirmed by Real Madrid after the players met with the club’s internal investigator related to the incident, which occurred in the lead-up to a critical match against Barcelona.
“Given these circumstances, Real Madrid has decided to impose a financial penalty of 500,000 euros on each player, thus concluding the corresponding internal procedures,” the club stated. Both players have expressed remorse over the altercation and have issued apologies to their teammates, coaches, fans, and management. They also released individual statements on social media regarding the incident.
The atmosphere within the squad has been tense following a challenging season, with Real Madrid currently trailing Barcelona in the La Liga standings. The club has also faced early exits from both the Champions League and Copa del Rey.
In related news, legendary coach Jose Mourinho is reported to be the frontrunner to assume the managerial role at Real Madrid. Currently head coach of Benfica in Portugal, Mourinho has led the team to an invincible domestic league performance, although Porto has already secured the league title. Reports suggest that Real Madrid has initiated discussions with the Portuguese coach regarding a potential appointment for the next season, with Alvaro Arbeloa likely to be dismissed after the current campaign.
