Putin: G20 Attendance in Brazil Will ‘Wreck’ Summit

Russian President Vladimir Putin has announced that he will not be attending the upcoming G20 summit in Brazil. He cited concerns that his presence would disrupt the summit, with discussions likely focusing on the International Criminal Court (ICC) warrant issued against him for alleged war crimes in Ukraine.

While Ukraine has called for Brazil to arrest Putin if he attends the event, Putin downplayed the risk of arrest. He mentioned the possibility of signing a bilateral agreement with Brazil to bypass the ICC warrant and limit the court’s jurisdiction.

Despite not being a signatory to the ICC, Russia denies the allegations against Putin regarding the deportation of Ukrainian children following Moscow’s offensive in 2022. Putin recently visited Mongolia without any issues, despite the country being a member of the ICC.

Additionally, Putin labeled Ukrainian President Volodymyr Zelenskyy’s remarks about Ukraine needing nuclear weapons or NATO membership for security as a “dangerous provocation.” He stated that Russia would not allow such actions to happen and would respond accordingly.

On the international front, Putin expressed a willingness for Russia to play a role in seeking compromises in the conflict in the Middle East. He mentioned having trustworthy relations with both Israel and Iran and expressed a desire to help stop the ongoing conflicts in the region.

In summary, Putin’s decision to skip the G20 summit in Brazil reflects his concerns about potential discussions surrounding the ICC warrant against him. He remains firm in his stance regarding Ukraine’s security and expresses a willingness to work towards peace in the Middle East.
