NEW DELHI: In a recent broadcast of his monthly radio program, Mann ki Baat, Prime Minister Narendra Modi commended Indian sprinters Gurindervir Singh and Animesh Kujur for breaking national records at the National Senior Athletics Federation Competition held in Ranchi. Modi highlighted that four national records were established across different events, recognizing Singh alongside fellow athletes Vishal TK, Tejaswin Shankar, Dev Meena, and Kuldeep Kumar.

During the program, Modi engaged in a dialogue with Singh and Kujur, who shared insights into their personal journeys and experiences in sports. “The competition you’ve participated in enhances the nation’s prestige and positions the country well for the future, done with a positive spirit,” Modi remarked. He praised the athletes’ sportsman spirit, emphasizing the importance of collaboration and striving for excellence.

Additionally, Modi spoke about a swimming initiative led by Saji Valasheril in Aluva, Kerala, where over 15,000 individuals, including those with disabilities, have learned to swim. This initiative was inspired by a boat tragedy that claimed the lives of several students a few years prior.

The Prime Minister also highlighted the contributions of educator Girija Amma from Nagercoil, Tamil Nadu, who operates 15 schools, including the Jaigopal Garodia Hindu Vidyalaya in Chennai.

Addressing the forthcoming summer season, Modi noted that mangoes hold a special place in Indian culture and praised farmers involved in mango cultivation, underscoring the increasing global reach of Indian mangoes. He further advised caution during heatwaves.

Modi emphasized the importance of environmental conservation, particularly concerning the endangered Ganga river dolphin. He called on citizens to actively engage in efforts to preserve biodiversity and natural ecosystems, mentioning the country’s first “Ganga dolphin rescue ambulance” as part of these initiatives.
