The government is set to conduct an evaluation of the Mahatma Gandhi National Rural Employment Guarantee Scheme (MGNREGS) to assess its impact on the ground and enhance its effectiveness. The Development, Monitoring and Evaluation Office (DMEO) has initiated the process by inviting bids for the assessment, with the contract expected to be awarded by December 10.

The selected consultant will undertake a comprehensive study, including research on existing data and literature, as well as a field survey of over 20,000 households across 14 states. The household survey will span five financial years until FY24.

The evaluation process will involve both technical and financial assessments, with the consultant required to assemble a diverse team of experts to carry out the study. Key personnel, such as a team leader, monitoring and evaluation specialist, rural development expert, and others, will be deployed for the entire duration of the evaluation.

Overall, the aim of the evaluation is to gather insights that will help improve the implementation and impact of the rural employment guarantee scheme.
