New Zealand Cricket has announced their squad for the upcoming white-ball series against Sri Lanka, with Mitchell Santner being appointed as the interim captain. The 15-member squad includes new faces like bowling all-rounder Nathan Smith and wicketkeeper-batsman Mitch Hay, who have been called up for the first time.

Santner will lead the team on an interim basis, with plans to name long-term captains during the upcoming home summer. Smith, who was named NZC’s Men’s Domestic Player of the Year, has been impressive in the domestic circuit with 24 wickets last season. Hay, with previous experience playing for New Zealand A, has been consistent in all formats.

Six players from the current Test team facing India will also join the white-ball squad in Sri Lanka after the India Test series concludes. Notable players like Tom Blundell, Devon Conway, and Kane Williamson have been rested to prepare for the upcoming Test series against England.

Selector Sam Wells emphasized the importance of building depth in the squad for future ICC events. The blend of youth and experience in the team is aimed at preparing for the ICC Champions Trophy in 2025 and the 2027 Cricket World Cup.

The New Zealand squad for the white-ball tour of Sri Lanka includes players like Michael Bracewell, Mark Chapman, Lockie Ferguson, and Ish Sodhi, among others. The selection reflects the team’s focus on developing future talent and achieving success in upcoming global events.
