A Shillong court has granted bail to Sonam Raghuvanshi, the primary suspect in the murder of her husband, Raja Raghuvanshi, which occurred during their honeymoon in Cherrapunjee’s Sohra on May 23, 2025. The court’s decision, made by Additional District Court (Judicial) Dashalene R Kharbteng, was based on the police’s failure to inform her of the reasons for her arrest.

Sonam was granted bail on a bond of Rs 50,000, alongside a surety of the same amount. The court has mandated that she remain in Shillong and report to the court during hearings. Following the ruling, the family of the victim expressed their intent to appeal to a higher court for the revocation of the bail.

Vipin Raghuvanshi, Raja’s brother, and their mother, Uma Raghuvanshi, expressed their distress over the decision, claiming it reflects a lack of justice. This was Sonam’s fourth application for bail.
