Kerala Aims for Top Spot in Ease of Doing Business, Says Minister Rajeeve

Kerala has evolved into a cohesive urban landscape with industries flourishing throughout the state, as highlighted by P. Rajeeve, the State Industries Minister. During the inauguration of the KINFRA International Convention Centre in Kakkanad, near Kochi, the Minister emphasized that Kerala has secured the top position in Ease of Doing Business, based on feedback from investors. The government is actively working to leverage this advantage by participating in global forums such as the World Economic Forum to engage with potential investors and attract them to the state.

Rajeeve pointed out that having key decision-makers at these global events enhances confidence among investors, which is why high-ranking officials are included in these delegations.

He noted that, over the last 15 years, Kerala has not ranked among the states with the highest number of strikes in India; Tamil Nadu holds that dubious distinction. The Minister underscored the necessity of challenging the prevailing misconception that strikes and protests are commonplace in Kerala.

In comparison to other states, Kerala offers a lower cost of attracting investment while maintaining a strong interest from investors. The government is dedicated to providing essential land and infrastructure to support industrial growth. To promote all-encompassing industrial development, nearly 50 events—including conclaves and roadshows—are being planned.

Despite Kerala being home to the most five-star hotels in the country, it often faces a shortage of adequate venues for hosting international conferences, particularly during the tourist season when accommodations are limited. To tackle this issue, the Minister stressed the need for additional convention centers and related facilities, with KINFRA playing a pivotal role in this initiative.

The newly established convention center spans 51,715 square feet over three floors and features an air-conditioned auditorium with a seating capacity for 640 attendees, a mini hall accommodating 100, a dining area, kitchen, VIP guest rooms, lounge, boardroom, and other amenities. Designed for global seminars, presentations, and conferences, the center is already booked for events starting January 25.

Additionally, the facility provides parking for about 700 vehicles, an outdoor stage for open-air events, and direct access to the Infopark Expressway. Its location, just two kilometers from the Seaport-Airport Road, is set to benefit further from the upcoming completion of the metro’s second phase, enhancing connectivity in the region.
