Israel Ignites Gaza Strikes Despite Trump’s Call for Restraint

Gaza’s civil defense agency has reported that Israel conducted multiple airstrikes and artillery shelling in Gaza City, despite a plea from U.S. President Donald Trump to cease bombardments following Hamas’s partial acceptance of a ceasefire agreement. Civil defense spokesperson Mahmoud Basal indicated that the overnight attacks were intense, resulting in the destruction of 20 homes. Casualties included four individuals killed and several others injured from a strike on a residence in the Tuffah neighborhood, as reported by al-Ahli Hospital. Additionally, two children were confirmed dead, with eight others wounded, following a drone strike on a tent in a displacement camp at Nasser Hospital in Khan Younis. The ceasefire proposal presented by Trump, with the backing of Israeli Prime Minister Netanyahu, suggests a cessation of hostilities, the release of captives within 72 hours, disarmament of Hamas, and a gradual withdrawal of Israeli forces from Gaza. On Friday, Hamas indicated its willingness to release captives as part of the Trump plan but requested further negotiations on certain aspects and a role in determining the future of the Palestinian territory.
