1.5 Million Pilgrims Embark on Hajj Journey Amid Rising Regional Tensions

The annual Hajj pilgrimage, one of the five pillars of Islam, has commenced in Saudi Arabia, attracting over 1.5 million pilgrims from around the globe. Amid ongoing geopolitical tensions, including a fragile ceasefire in the Iran conflict and a global energy crisis, the influx of pilgrims marks a significant event. Saleh bin Saad al-Murabba, commander of the Hajj passport forces, reported that this number is expected to grow. For many attendees, such as Egyptian pilgrim Samya Abdul Moneim, the journey represents the realization of a lifelong aspiration, filled with profound emotional significance. As they gather in Mecca, pilgrims circle the Kaaba in resplendent heat, with volunteers providing relief through water and misting fans. The pilgrimage serves as a physically demanding yet spiritually enriching experience for many, culminating in the gathering on the plain of Arafat, where pilgrims will engage in prayer and reflection.
