The family of 23-year-old MBA student Mohammad Farhat, whose body was discovered in his hostel room at IIM Udaipur on September 7, has formally appealed to Rajasthan Chief Minister Bhajan Lal Sharma, requesting an investigation by the CBI or CBCID. The family categorically disputes the prevailing suicide narrative, alleging that their son was murdered and that influential individuals are attempting to obscure the circumstances surrounding his death.

In the letter to the Chief Minister, Farhat’s father, Mohammad Ishaq from Bareilly, Uttar Pradesh, detailed observations that led him to believe his son’s death was not a suicide. “When I was finally permitted to enter his sealed hostel room, I saw a rope tied to the fan, a wet towel on his bed, fresh adhesive on the room’s seal, his laptop still on, an unfinished cup of tea, and his belongings neatly arranged. None of this indicates suicide,” Ishaq conveyed in a letter obtained by Maktoob.

Ishaq raised concerns about irregularities in the investigation, stating, “When I sought clarification from the administration, no officer provided a satisfactory answer. Instead, I felt pressured to accept the narrative that my son had died by suicide. I am convinced he was murdered, and that the truth is being concealed.”

He further alleged that the post-mortem findings were mishandled, claiming, “After the report, when the body was turned, I noticed deep injury marks on his back. Despite my repeated requests, the police disregarded this evidence and failed to incorporate it into their findings.”

Describing the situation as a potential cover-up, Ishaq appealed directly to the Chief Minister, asserting, “Powerful individuals are implicated in my son’s murder, and the facts are being suppressed. I urge you to initiate a CBI or CBCID investigation into this matter and ensure police cooperation.”

According to previous reports from Maktoob Media, the Rajasthan Human Rights Commission has already requested a detailed report from the state government, Udaipur district administration, and IIM Udaipur authorities.

Despite administrative inquiries, the family remains firm in their belief that only a central agency investigation will yield justice. “We will not accept silence,” Ishaq emphasized in his correspondence, noting that they have attached photographs and the post-mortem report to support their claims.

The post-mortem report is still pending.
