Indonesian authorities have deployed heavy machinery to shift sections of the collapsed al-Khoziny Islamic Boarding School in Sidoarjo, where approximately 59 teenage students remain unaccounted for three days after the incident. The structural failure, which occurred on Monday, involved a prayer hall that collapsed during construction on unauthorised additional floors above the building’s original two-storey design. Despite the grim outlook and the passage of the critical 72-hour survival window, rescue operations continue with caution. Currently, five fatalities have been confirmed, and more than 100 individuals are injured, with many hospitalized due to serious injuries. Family members have been vigilantly waiting at the site, holding out hope for their missing loved ones, including Hafiah, whose son Muhammad Abdurrohman Nafis is among the missing.
