Devastating Rain and Dust Storm Claims 33 Lives in Uttar Pradesh

At least 33 people have died across five districts in Uttar Pradesh following a severe storm accompanied by heavy rainfall that caused significant disruption on Wednesday, according to reports from news agency PTI.

In response to the extensive damage, Uttar Pradesh Chief Minister Yogi Adityanath ordered immediate relief actions and compensation for the families affected. He instructed district authorities to complete assistance efforts within 24 hours and advised officials to remain vigilant due to ongoing weather concerns.

The state government has initiated surveys to assess the impact on crops, livestock, and homes resulting from the unexpected weather conditions.

Officials reported that Bhadohi recorded the highest number of fatalities, with 16 deaths, followed by Fatehpur with nine and Budaun with five. Additionally, two fatalities were reported in Chandauli, while one death occurred in Sonbhadra. Numerous individuals were also injured in various storm-related incidents.

The abrupt change in weather disrupted communication and rescue operations in several areas. In Bhadohi, mobile services were affected after strong winds uprooted electricity poles and damaged local infrastructure. Emergency teams, police, and local administrators were dispatched to impacted villages to clear debris and assist residents.

Many of the deaths were caused by collapsing walls and falling trees as individuals sought shelter from the storm. In Budaun, two young girls were killed when the wall of a mud hut collapsed during the intense weather, while a woman died when a tree fell on the small structure where villagers had gathered for safety. Additionally, a truck driver and a young man delivering food lost their lives after trees struck them.

In Fatehpur, most casualties were reported from Khaga tehsil, where multiple buildings collapsed during the storm. At least 16 injuries were reported in the district.
