CSK complains to BCCI against RCB, says 'Dosa, Idli' track in Bengaluru not in good taste

The Chennai Super Kings (CSK) have lodged a formal complaint with the Board of Control for Cricket in India (BCCI) regarding the DJ’s choice of music and comments during their recent away match against the Royal Challengers Bengaluru (RCB) on April 5 at Chinnaswamy Stadium in Bengaluru. Central to their grievance is a track featuring the lyrics “Dosa, idli, sambar, chutney,” played prior to CSK’s innings; the team asserts that this song reinforces negative South Indian stereotypes.

An official from the Indian Premier League (IPL) has verified that the governing council is reviewing the complaint. “We have received a complaint from CSK and are looking into it,” the IPL official stated.

Kasi Viswanathan, the Managing Director of CSK, corroborated the franchise’s concerns, noting that derogatory comments were also directed at specific CSK players during the match. “The DJs are usually there to support the home team. But at Chinnaswamy Stadium, it was different. Certain comments were made against our players. Considering this, we have written to the BCCI to investigate,” he told the Indian Express.

The controversy surrounding the “Dosa, Idli” song first emerged last year when RCB shared a clip of their wicketkeeper, Jitesh Sharma, singing it, leading to backlash from CSK fans. In response, the CSK management clarified that they would refrain from commenting on opposing players and fans.

Viswanathan added, “After that incident, there hasn’t been any repeat of it. The DJ isn’t supposed to make any comments on the opposition players. Moreover, we are fortunate to have a lovely fan base that cheers us in numbers.” Additionally, CSK objected to the DJ’s remarks on the public address system following the dismissal of their players during the April 5 match.
