Crude Oil Futures Climb Amid Ongoing US-Iran Tensions Fears

Crude oil futures experienced an uptick on Friday morning as concerns lingered over escalating tensions between the United States and Iran. This resurgence followed remarks from President Donald Trump, who indicated a reluctance to expedite any resolution to the ongoing conflict.

As of 9:07 AM on Friday, June Brent oil futures were trading at $105.95, reflecting an increase of 0.84%. West Texas Intermediate (WTI) crude oil futures for June reached $96.57, marking a gain of 0.75%. Conversely, May crude oil futures on the Multi Commodity Exchange (MCX) were priced at ₹9119, down 0.61% from the previous close of ₹9175, while June futures declined to ₹8680 from the prior closing of ₹8738, down 0.66%.

Trump utilized the social media platform Truth Social to issue several critiques of Iranian leadership, suggesting potential military actions in the Strait of Hormuz. In one post, he stated, “I have ordered the United States Navy to shoot and kill any boat, small boats though they may be (Their naval ships are ALL, 159 of them, at the bottom of the sea!), that is putting mines in the waters of the Strait of Hormuz. There is to be no hesitation. Additionally, our mine ‘sweepers’ are clearing the Strait right now. I am hereby ordering that activity to continue, but at a tripled-up level!”

In a separate message, Trump remarked, “Iran is having a very hard time figuring out who their leader is! They just don’t know! The infighting is between the ‘Hardliners,’ who have been losing BADLY on the battlefield, and the ‘Moderates,’ who are not very moderate at all (but gaining respect!), is CRAZY! We have total control over the Strait of Hormuz. No ship can enter or leave without the approval of the United States Navy. It is ‘Sealed up Tight,’ until such time as Iran is able to make a DEAL!!!”

Addressing media claims regarding his eagerness to conclude the conflict with Iran, Trump asserted, “…I am possibly the least pressured person ever to be in this position. I have all the time in the World, but Iran doesn’t — The clock is ticking!”

Furthermore, Trump announced a three-week extension of the ceasefire between Israel and Lebanon, expressing anticipation for an upcoming meeting with Israeli Prime Minister Bibi Netanyahu and Lebanese President Joseph Aoun. “The United States is going to work with Lebanon in order to help it protect itself from Hezbollah,” he stated.
