Congress Demands Action Against BJP Spokesperson Over Alleged Threat to Rahul Gandhi

NEW DELHI: The Congress party has called for immediate action against BJP spokesperson Pintu Mahadev, who allegedly issued a death threat to Leader of Opposition Rahul Gandhi during a live television debate. The party described Mahadev’s statement on X as “a cold and calculated death threat” and highlighted a concerning trend of intimidation against its senior leadership.

In a series of pointed questions, Congress raised concerns about the BJP’s political tactics, asking:

  1. “Is this a larger, sinister conspiracy being hatched against the people’s leader, Rahul Gandhi ji?”
  2. “Does the BJP endorse the politics of criminal intimidation, violence, and even death threats?”
  3. “Is the BJP trying to normalize violence against the leader of the opposition—a constitutional position—and other opposition leaders who criticize its governance?”

The party asserted that this incident represents a direct assault on the rule of law, the Constitution, and democracy. It linked Mahadev’s remarks to Gandhi’s persistent criticism of the BJP-RSS ideology, emphasizing that no threats or acts of violence would deter Gandhi from advocating for the citizens of India and upholding the Constitution.

Congress has demanded two specific actions: immediate and strict measures by state police against Pintu Mahadev, as well as a public apology and condemnation of the threat from BJP leadership. The party warned that inaction would implicate Prime Minister Narendra Modi and Home Minister Amit Shah.

On Sunday, Congress General Secretary K C Venugopal had already written to Home Minister Amit Shah, characterizing Mahadev’s remarks as a “chilling and heinous” death threat against Rahul Gandhi.
