MG introduced the Comet in the Indian market almost two years ago. Despite initial uncertainty about its reception, the Comet has proven to be a successful offering for MG. While it may not have achieved the same level of success as some other models, such as the Windsor, the Comet’s unique positioning as an urban mobility solution has garnered positive attention. MG’s continuous updates, including attractive offers, battery subscription plans, and fast-charging capabilities, have contributed to keeping the Comet relevant in the market. Let’s take a closer look at how the Comet holds up in the current scenario.

Measuring less than three metres in length, the Comet stands out for its compact size. The overall design may not be overly extravagant, but it definitely catches the eye. The distinct LED light bar at the front and rear adds to the modern appeal of the car. The three-door configuration sets the Comet apart in the budget segment, and other design elements like the illuminated MG logo and aerodynamic wheel caps enhance its style quotient. Despite its unconventional design, the Comet manages to make a statement and holds its own even when compared to more expensive vehicles.

The boxy design of the Comet serves a practical purpose. Its small footprint makes it exceptionally easy to maneuver and park in tight urban spaces, addressing a common challenge for city drivers. While there were initial concerns about the car’s unconventional looks, its functionality and appeal have won over many customers.

Moving on to the interior, the Comet’s cabin maximizes available space effectively. Despite accommodating four seats, the Comet remains compact, akin to a conventional commuter motorcycle. The interior offers ample headroom and legroom, with wide-opening doors for easy entry and exit. The dashboard features a sleek design, reminiscent of Apple’s aesthetics, housing two sizable screens for infotainment and driver displays. The Comet excels in practicality as well, with features like split-folding rear seats for carrying larger items, USB slots for dashcam installation, and hooks for added convenience.

The standard 17.3 kWh battery in the MG Comet provides a claimed range of 230 km on a full charge. With 41 bhp and 11.21 kg-m of torque from the onboard motor, the Comet delivers an enjoyable driving experience. Its low weight and instant torque delivery make city driving effortless, with smooth acceleration and respectable power output. Switching between Eco and Sport modes allows for varying power delivery to suit different driving scenarios. The absence of a start/stop button simplifies the driving process, and while the 3.3 kW AC charging may be slow, models with 7.4 kW capacity offer faster charging options.

Despite its compact size, the Comet manages to offer a spacious and well-equipped interior, making it an ideal urban companion. Priced competitively, with various models and pricing options, the Comet caters to different customer preferences. While it may not excel in high-speed stability or spirited driving, the Comet shines as an accessible electric vehicle, prioritizing interior quality and everyday usability. Whether you’re a first-time car buyer or looking for a city runabout, the MG Comet presents a compelling option in the market.
