AIADMK MLAs staged a walkout from the Tamil Nadu State Assembly on Friday during the budget presentation, citing allegations of a scam involving the Tamil Nadu State Marketing Corporation Limited (TASMAC). Following the walkout, Edappadi K. Palaniswami, the General Secretary of AIADMK, spoke to the media, claiming that the potential corruption related to TASMAC could exceed ₹40,000 crores.

Palaniswami alleged that the government has not taken any action despite a raid conducted by the Enforcement Directorate (ED). He insisted that the DMK government, led by MK Stalin, should resign in light of these allegations.

“The ED has indicated that there is corruption exceeding ₹1,000 crores in TASMAC. The investigation is ongoing, and it is likely that total corruption could reach over ₹40,000 crores. Despite the ED’s raid, there has been no governmental action. We demand the resignation of the DMK government,” he stated.

Just a day prior, the ED conducted search operations at several locations across Tamil Nadu under the Prevention of Money Laundering Act, 2002, in connection with various offenses related to TASMAC and its associated entities. In a post on the social media platform X, the ED announced, “ED, Chennai has executed search operations at multiple locations throughout Tamil Nadu on March 6, 2025, under the provisions of PMLA, 2002, relating to various offenses associated with the Tamil Nadu State Marketing Corporation Limited (TASMAC) and its related entities. During these operations, several incriminating documents were seized.”

Meanwhile, the State’s Finance Minister, Thangam Thennarasu, presented the State Budget in the Assembly on the same day.
