Early Life and Background
Born Suman Hemmadi, Kalyanpur emerged from a family that highly valued education and the arts. Her father, Shankar Rao Hemmadi, served as an officer in the Central Bank of India, while her mother, Seeta Hemmadi, played an essential role in nurturing her artistic inclinations. She was the eldest of six siblings, comprising four sisters and a brother. One of her sisters, Shyama Hemmady, also pursued music, influencing Kalyanpur’s path in the industry.
Marriage to Ramanand Kalyanpur
In 1958, Suman married businessman Ramanand Kalyanpur from Mumbai, adopting his surname in her professional career. Reports indicate that Ramanand was a steadfast supporter of her music career, often accompanying her to recording sessions. The couple enjoyed a long marriage until Ramanand’s passing in 2008.
Family Life
Suman Kalyanpur and Ramanand had one daughter, Charul Agny. Unlike her prominent mother, Charul opted for a life outside the entertainment industry, and she has mostly remained out of the public eye.
