Hardik Pandya Issues Warning to Teammates Amidst Fourth Straight Defeat: Changes Expected

Punjab Kings secured a decisive seven-wicket victory over Mumbai Indians at Wankhede Stadium in IPL 2026. Arshdeep Singh was instrumental with the ball, taking three wickets, while batsmen Prabhsimran Singh and Shreyas Iyer each scored half-centuries. This defeat marks the fourth consecutive loss for Mumbai, leaving them with only one win to date this season.

Post-match, Mumbai’s captain Hardik Pandya expressed his frustration and hinted at making tough decisions ahead of the upcoming match against Gujarat Titans on April 20. Reflecting on the team’s ongoing struggles, Pandya questioned whether the issues stem from individual performances, group dynamics, or planning deficiencies. He emphasized the need for players to assume accountability and suggested that dropping players may become necessary if improvements are not seen.

“To be very honest, I don’t have much to say right now. I think we really need to go back on the drawing board and see where we are lacking. Is it individuals? Is it as a group? Is it as planning? We’ll just figure it out and see what we can do next,” Pandya remarked during the post-match presentation.

He continued, “I think we need to see, do we need to make some difficult calls or do we need to keep continuing and hope that we’ll turn things around. These are some harsh questions which eventually we need to answer and yeah, ownership has to be taken.”

Pandya’s comments appeared to target players such as Suryakumar Yadav and Tilak Varma, both of whom have faced significant challenges this season. Suryakumar has scored just 106 runs in five matches, while Tilak has only mustered 43 runs in the same number of appearances. The lack of performance from these key players has raised questions about their continued selection in the team.

Changes to the playing XI may be on the horizon, particularly given Suryakumar and Tilak’s roles in India’s recent World Cup victory, with Suryakumar having served as captain during that campaign.
