Man Kneels and Apologizes to BJP Aide as Police Stands By in Meerut

A disturbing video from Meerut has sparked outrage after showing a man being forced to kneel and touch his forehead to the ground in apology before a self-proclaimed student leader allegedly linked to Uttar Pradesh Minister Somendra Tomar, while police officers stood by and watched silently.

The incident reportedly took place earlier this week following a minor altercation between the victim and the student leader.

The video, now circulating widely on social media, shows the accused leader shouting abuses and forcing the man to kneel and beg for forgiveness.

Despite the public humiliation taking place in full view of uniformed police personnel, none of the officers intervened to stop the abuse.

Local accounts say the confrontation began over a local dispute but escalated after the student leader invoked his alleged political connections.

Instead of diffusing the situation, the police appeared to allow the intimidation to continue unchecked.

The police’s inaction is being criticised on social media as a reflection of the growing culture of impunity in Uttar Pradesh, where political muscle often overshadows the rule of law.

The Meerut police, in a post on X, said, “There was a dispute between both parties in the matter regarding vehicle parking. The accused is in police custody. A case has been registered based on the complaint filed by the complainant, and action is being taken.”

However, no concrete action has reportedly been taken so far by the Meerut police regarding the incident.

The video has reignited debates over the nexus between political patronage and policing in Uttar Pradesh, where incidents of intimidation by individuals claiming proximity to ruling party leaders have repeatedly surfaced.

Critics say that such acts, carried out openly and in the presence of law enforcement, erode public trust and reinforce the perception that the law does not apply equally to all.
