OpenAI’s upgraded video generator now supports up to 25-second clips, web access, and advanced editing controls.
OpenAI has announced two major upgrades to its AI video generation model, Sora 2, expanding its reach and creative capabilities. The update, revealed Thursday through the company’s official X handle, comes just weeks after Sora 2’s launch at the end of September.
Until now, the tool was restricted to a limited number of users through the invite-only Sora iOS app. The latest update finally brings web access, allowing users—especially non-iPhone creators—to generate AI videos directly from Sora’s website. Access still requires an invite code, though ChatGPT Plus and Pro subscribers can continue using the earlier version of Sora without one.
A second major improvement extends video duration limits. Standard users can now generate videos up to 15 seconds, while Pro users can go up to 25 seconds, a significant jump from the previous 10-second cap. The longer format gives creators more flexibility for storytelling, animation, and experimental visual projects.
Sora 2’s storyboard feature has also been rolled out for ChatGPT Pro users on the web. The new interface lets users insert reference images, tweak resolution and aspect ratio, and adjust duration with precision. Its timeline tool allows creators to assign unique text prompts to different video segments—offering finer, frame-by-frame control over how the AI interprets a scene.
With these updates, OpenAI appears to be positioning Sora 2 as a more creator-friendly, cross-platform video generation suite, signalling its ambition to make AI filmmaking accessible beyond the Apple ecosystem.
