Shubman Gill Poised for Historic Milestone as India Eyes Victory on Day 2 in Delhi

New Delhi: Indian captain Shubman Gill is poised to make his mark in the record books on Day 2 of the second Test against West Indies at the Arun Jaitley Stadium. The 26-year-old is on the verge of surpassing Rishabh Pant for the most runs scored by an Indian in World Test Championship (WTC) history.

Currently, Pant holds the record with 2,731 runs from 67 innings. Gill, who ended Day 1 unbeaten, has accrued 2,717 runs in 71 innings and requires just 15 more runs to take the top position. Given India’s strong position in the match, this milestone appears imminent on Saturday morning.

Trailing closely behind Gill and Pant is former captain Rohit Sharma, who has notched 2,716 runs in 69 innings. Virat Kohli and Ravindra Jadeja follow in fourth and fifth places, respectively. Meanwhile, Yashasvi Jaiswal is rapidly climbing the rankings, having established himself with impressive records. His unbeaten score of 173 in the first innings places him sixth on the list, with a total of 2,418 runs from just 48 innings.

Most Runs for India in WTC After Day 1 of Second Test Between India and West Indies:

Player Runs
Rishabh Pant 2731
Shubman Gill 2717
Rohit Sharma 2716
Virat Kohli 2617
Ravindra Jadeja 2505
Yashasvi Jaiswal 2418

Jaiswal dominated Day 1 and aims to secure a double century on October 11. He is currently batting alongside Gill, and both players will be vital for setting a defensible total. Given the team’s performance in the previous match at Narendra Modi Stadium, where India won by an innings and 140 runs, they aspire to replicate that success in this game.

In addition to Jaiswal’s contribution, Sai Sudharsan also played a key role with a score of 87 runs, while Rahul managed 38 runs. Both batsmen were dismissed by Jomel Warrican.
