AGRA (UTTAR PRADESH) – Two individuals drowned and six others remain unaccounted for following an idol immersion into the Utangan river in Agra district, according to local officials on Friday, October 3, 2025.
The tragic incident took place in the Khairagarh area on Thursday, October 2, 2025, when nine people fell into deep water during the immersion. Local residents were able to rescue one individual, but the bodies of Gagan, aged 26, and Ompal, aged 32, were subsequently recovered.
District Magistrate Arvind Mallappa Bangari reported that search efforts are ongoing, involving local divers, police, and teams from the State Disaster Response Force (SDRF). He noted that the administration had previously designated a specific location for the immersion, but the group opted for a different spot in the river.
Uttar Pradesh Chief Minister Yogi Adityanath expressed his condolences regarding the incident, conveying sympathies to the affected families and offering prayers for strength to cope with their loss, as stated in an official announcement from Lucknow.
