HyFarm, an agri-business unit based in Ahmedabad, has launched a pilot project on potato farming in Gujarat’s Himmatangar to help farmers cut costs and increase productivity. Kalpesh Bhai from Sonasan village, one of the participants in the pilot project, has already seen significant savings in his cultivation expenses. By following the recommendations of HyFarm, he managed to save around ₹25,000 per acre by reducing the use of seeds, fertilizers, and water.

The project, known as HyFarm Paathshala, has selected 30 model farms across north Gujarat’s potato-growing regions to educate farmers on various techniques to enhance their yield and reduce operational costs. The focus of the project is on reducing seed usage, optimizing water consumption, and minimizing fertilizer application. By implementing strategies such as wider seedbeds and deeper sowing, farmers have been able to save on seed costs and produce higher-quality potatoes suitable for processing.

Soundararadjane, the CEO of HyFarm, emphasized the importance of customizing agricultural practices based on the specific needs of each micro-pocket within the potato-growing regions. Through the integration of modern technologies and traditional farming wisdom, HyFarm aims to improve the overall quality of potato production while minimizing cultivation expenses.

The project utilizes IoT sensors, digital tools, and the Farmoji app to provide real-time monitoring of soil and weather conditions. This data-driven approach enables farmers to make informed decisions and follow customized recommendations for each stage of the farming process. By combining expert knowledge with practical guidance, HyFarm is empowering farmers to adopt regenerative agricultural practices and achieve sustainable growth in the potato farming sector.

As the pilot project progresses, HyFarm plans to leverage the insights and data collected from the Paathshala farms to assess the effectiveness of their recommendations and identify areas for further improvement. By investing in next-generation technologies and building a strong foundation for agricultural development, HyFarm is committed to driving innovation and enhancing the competitiveness of potato farming in Gujarat.

Overall, the HyFarm Paathshala initiative serves as a beacon of change and progress in the agricultural landscape, inspiring farmers to embrace new practices and achieve greater success in potato cultivation. Through collaborative efforts and continuous learning, HyFarm aims to establish a thriving ecosystem that benefits both farmers and the agri-business sector in Gujarat.
