Hyundai has unveiled the all-new eighth-generation Elantra at the 2026 Busan Mobility Show in South Korea. Known as the Avante locally, the new Elantra features larger dimensions, advanced technology, and improved engine options, although its pricing and availability in India remain uncertain. With the market shifting towards SUVs, it’s yet to be seen how this sedan will fare in the Indian automotive landscape.

Bigger Dimensions and Sharp Styling

The new Elantra measures 4,765 mm in length, marking a 55 mm increase from its predecessor. In addition, it is 30 mm wider and features a longer wheelbase of 2,750 mm. The design maintains Hyundai’s bold aesthetic, incorporating signature features such as split LED headlights, T-shaped daytime running lights (DRLs), and a wide grille that creates a striking visual impact. The rear end is equally impressive with T-shaped LED taillights and a sportier bumper that enhances its premium feel.

Advanced Technology in a Premium Cabin

Inside, the Elantra boasts a modern dashboard highlighted by a 14.6-inch touchscreen integrated with Pleos Connect infotainment. The cabin is further enhanced with a digital instrument cluster, an AI voice assistant named Gleo, and a premium Bang & Olufsen audio system. Other noteworthy features include dual wireless charging pads, memory-equipped power front seats, dual-zone climate control, a built-in dashcam, and support for Digital Key. The design aims to make everyday driving more connected and enjoyable.

Fuel Efficiency and Safety Features

Hyundai offers two engine options for the new Elantra: a 2.0-litre naturally aspirated petrol engine and a hybrid powertrain with a 1.6-litre capacity. The hybrid option aims for improved fuel efficiency, enabling a smoother driving experience. In terms of safety, the new Elantra is equipped with a comprehensive suite of Advanced Driver Assistance Systems (ADAS), including 10 airbags, lane-keeping assist, adaptive cruise control, and forward collision avoidance assist, enhancing both driver and passenger safety.

What This Means

For Indian consumers, the new Elantra’s sophisticated features and design reflect Hyundai’s commitment to innovation in the sedan segment. However, the initiative may not translate directly to the Indian market, which is increasingly leaning towards SUVs and electric vehicles (EVs). The lack of a clear plan for an Indian launch highlights the shifting priorities of both consumers and manufacturers, as Hyundai concentrates on expanding its offerings in more popular segments. Additionally, with sedans becoming less appealing in India, potential buyers may need to weigh this vehicle against its SUV counterparts, keeping in mind their preferences and requirements.
